About the Role
Birr Castle Demesne is seeking an enthusiastic and reliable Visitor Experience Supervisor to help deliver an outstanding visitor experience during the 2026 season. This role is ideal for someone passionate about heritage, tourism, and customer service, with experience supporting frontline teams.

- Supervise, support, and motivate frontline staff during shifts.
- Act as the main point of contact for visitors and provide information on Friends Membership.
- Manage ticket sales, merchandise, refreshments, and cash handling.
- Providing occasional guided tours and assisting with events, educational activities, and occasional evening functions.
- Maintain public areas to the highest standards and ensure health, safety, and service protocols are followed.
- Provide administrative support to the office team as required.

Visitor Experience Assistant– Seasonal Part-Time
Location: Birr Castle Demesne, Birr, Co. Offaly
Contract Type: Part-time (Seasonal)
Expected Hours: 12–24 hours per week (approx. 2–3 days per week, including some weekends)
Working Type: In-person, usually 10.00am – 5.00pm (varies seasonally)
Contract Duration: March – September 2026
Includes weekend work (minimum 2 weekends per month), with flexibility required for occasional evenings and events.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead guided tours across the demesne, gardens, and exhibitions, providing engaging and informative experiences for a variety of audiences.
- Provide clear, accurate, and enthusiastic communication to visitors, answering questions and sharing information about the site and its facilities.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, ensuring all visitors feel welcomed and supported.
- Support daily operations in multiple areas, including admissions, gift shop, playground, and event spaces.
- Assist with membership coordination and the management of selected tour groups.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain a safe, welcoming, and well-presented environment.
- Contribute to a positive team culture through flexibility, effective communication, and willingness to assist across different visitor-facing activities.
Candidate Requirements
- Experience working in a heritage organisation (desirable)
- Experience in a customer service role (desirable)
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Outgoing personality and ability to comfortably interact with new people in a pleasant manner
- Excellent organisational and administrative skills
- Proficient in the use of booking and scheduling systems.
- Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Flexibility regarding evening and weekend work is essential
- An affinity for the arts and community engagement and the desire to be part of a growing, dynamic team
