Part-time Receptionist/Tour Guide

Birr Castle Gardens & Science Centre is one of the premier visitor attractions in the midlands, offering a very unique visitor experience.

We are currently looking for a part time receptionist/tour guide.  This is an excellent opportunity for the right candidate to thrive in a role that offers a fantastic work environment in a well-established property.

Requirements:

  • Experience in the tourism and hospitality industry
  • Experience in receptionist duties, customer service and retail an advantage
  • Well presented with an excellent manner and visitor focused personality
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Calm under pressure and able to deal with difficult situations as they arise
  • Have excellent administrative skills and computer literacy including advanced knowledge of all Microsoft and social media packages
  • Excellent verbal and written English essential
  • Second language an advantage
  • Flexibility in working hours/days
  • Be a good team player, and capable of working on own initiative
  • All candidates must have legal status to work in Ireland

Detailed Job description

This is currently a part-time position, but flexibility is required during busier periods, when further working days/hours may be required.

Duties:

  • Welcome visitors by greeting and directing them in a helpful and informative manner
  • Tour guiding and group bookings
  • Operate cash register and cash handling
  • Management and promotion of membership scheme
  • Coordinate with management on strategic operations, budgets and targets
  • Respond to telephone, e-mail and in-person inquiries from visitors and others
  • Refer all inquiries to the appropriate individuals, divisions, or departments
  • Take and record telephone, e-mail, or written messages for management and staff members
  • Type forms, letters and reports as necessary
  • Maintain security by following procedures; fire safety, health and safety, employment law
  • Taking inventory, stocking and ordering appropriate supplies for the receptionist
  • Perform mail associated duties
  • Organise, maintain and coordinate receptionist records and files in their proper locations both on and off line
  • Calmly and professionally handle complaints or difficult situations as they arise
  • Supervision of the playground area as required
  • Participate in organised events in the demesne, for example Halloween & Christmas events
  • Present a neat and professional appearance at all times
  • Ensure up to date knowledge of demesne operations, information and history
  • Maintain excellent working relationships with all tour groups, customers and suppliers
  • Other duties as required
